Newsletters
The Bible Storying Newsletter came about as a
result of the request of a missionary serving in Malawi. During a Bible Storying
training session in Africa he asked why not a newsletter that would share what
others are doing with Bible Storying? So in January 1994 the first issue was
sent out via airmail to around 50 potential readers among Southern Baptist
missionaries. Word about the newsletter spread and many requests came asking to
receive it. Early on I asked each subscriber also to be a reporter sharing their
stories and questions.
I decided to keep the newsletter as a field-sensitive newsletter. To hold
down costs and maximize the newsletter content, I decided not to use graphics.
Later this was a good decision when the newsletter was moved to email as many
subscribers were then on slow ISPs and attachments were often stripped off by
local providers.
Today the Bible Storying newsletter serves a
much broader list of subscribers among the Great Commission Christian agencies
and their missionaries. Many receive the newsletter locally and reproduce for
local distribution.
Over the years as the need for security increased some articles needed to be
less specific in location and names withheld, aliases or initials used. Many
good reports are received which cannot be shared at all because of the extreme
sensitivity in those places.
The content of each issue consists of reports of
storyers and their results from using Bible Storying. Articles are included to
assist in developing Bible Storying methodology and related issues like
worldviews. There is mention of training opportunities and other resources for
Bible storyers. The Last Story is just that—a story from the Bible or from some
culture that illustrates the types of stories people tell and how certain Bible
stories could be crafted for telling.
Many subscribers write to share their questions. These may be answered
individually or if there is sufficient general interest included in a Q&A
article from time to time.
Back issues are available upon request. Contributions,
Comments or Corrections for the Bible Storying Newsletter may be sent to
.
